Golden Target for Smart Filly

Friday, 4th August 2017

Group One-performed filly Belle du Nord (Reliable Man-Bankside Belle, by Volksraad) is likely to open her three-year-old season at Hastings, reports NZ Racing Desk. "She hasn't done much galloping yet so she'll have a trial and then probably kick off in the Gold Trail Stakes," said co-trainer David Browne. "The [New Zealand] 1,000 Guineas will be her main aim." Runner-up behind top Kiwi filly Melody Belle in the Gr1 Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes in April, Belle Du Nord furthered her spring preparation this week with a 950 metre jump-out at Cambridge. "We were happy with her, she went well and just got a bit tired in the last 100 metres," Browne said. Belle du Nord earned the distinction of becoming the first winner for Westbury Stud-based sire Reliable Man when winning at Trentham in March.
