Well-Bred Sepoy Colt Wins in South Africa

Monday, 7th August 2017

Valuable New Zealand-bred colt Alwahsh became the latest impressive debut winner for the powerful Shadwell Stud & Mike de Kock team at Turffontein in South Africa overnight. By Darley's former champion juvenile Sepoy, Alwahsh looked a smart prospect when dashing clear of his rivals over the final 200m to score by 3 lengths eased up in a 3YO maiden over 1160m. Purchased by Shadwell Stud Australasia for $520,000 at the 2016 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Willow Park Stud, Alwahsh is out of the NZ mare Irish Blues (O'Reilly-Bohemian Blues, by Blues Traveller), herself a full-sister to Gr1 Australian Guineas & Australian Derby winner Shamrocker, Gr2 The Roses winner Bohemian Lily, and a half-sister to Gr1 Auckland Cup winner Rock Diva.
