Another Stakes Winner for Animal Kingdom
Arrowfield shuttler Animal Kingdom (Leroidesanimaux–Dalicia, by Acatenango) sired his second stakes winner when juvenile colt Continental Divide scored by three-quarters of a length in the $100,000 Graduation Stakes (5.5 furlongs) at Del Mar on Sunday, reports Thoroughbred Daily News. "What a nice colt," said winning trainer Jim Cassidy. "That price we paid for him looks like a fair one now. Right from day one he has never, ever let anything bother him. You can set a bomb off next to him and he doesn't care. He's got the greatest mind." He added: "He's not fully prepared yet. I'd like to see a little more weight on him and a little more colour in him and get a little bigger and stronger. We'll give him a chance now and see when he makes me run him again." A US$245,000 yearling purchase, Continental Divide improved his record to 1 win and 1 placing from 2 starts for US$69,000 in earnings. Animal Kingdom's first stakes winner Sunny Skies was successful in the Listed Debutante Stakes (1200m) at Churchill Downs in June. The Kentucky Derby & World Cup winner has also been represented by Group-placed Australian 3YO Lord Cecil who was placed in the Gr3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic in May. Animal Kingdom has completed his fourth northern hemisphere season at Darley America and returns to Arrowfield where he will be available this spring at a fee of $27,500 inc. GST.
