Adelaide Next for Lankan Rupee

Wednesday, 9th August 2017

Lankan Rupee will race second-up in the Gr3 Spring Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday week, reports racenet. The 5-time Gr1 winner, and former world's best sprinter, returned from an injury-enforced nine-month layoff with an encouraging first-up second behind Ability in Sunday's Gr3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Sandown. Trainer Mick Price had originally planned to run Lankan Rupee second-up in the Gr2 PB Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield over 1400m, but has decided to keep the 8YO to six furlongs and travel to Adelaide instead. "He pulled up really well in terms of soundness. It was his first run back from a long break and he put a lot of effort into it," Price said. "The Spring Stakes fits in perfectly in his program and you'd have to think he's going to be a great winning chance." Price added: "He's been hanging out at my stable for several months, so a trip away will do him the world of good." Lankan Rupee remains on track to contest the Gr1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 2 September.
