Nieta Sizzles In Trial

Wednesday, 9th August 2017

While the spotlight was understandably on champion mare Winx at yesterday Randwick trials, classy sprinting mare Nieta (Nicconi-Brookton Flash, by Spartacus) showed she was in for a big spring campaign when scoring a slashing 4.3 length win in her 740m heat. Although yet to win at stakes level, black-type success seems a formality for the 5YO who has built an imposing record of 6 wins from 12 starts and over $250,000 in prize money. "She went super and is back in good shape," trainer John Thompson told racingnsw.com.au. "She has got another trial to get through first but we're looking at the Concorde Stakes first up. We're really looking forward to getting her back to the races." Thompson added: "This will be her preparation hopefully. That's why we cut the last preparation short to come into the spring in good shape and at this stage it's all on track." The Gr3 Concorde Stakes (1100m) will be run at Royal Randwick on 2 September.
