York Next for Churchill

Wednesday, 9th August 2017

Champion Irish colt Churchill is likely to make his next appearance in the Gr1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York on 23 August, reports Sky Sports. The dual Guineas winner was scheduled to run in last weekend's Gr1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, but was a late withdrawal on account of the soft ground. "We are looking at York with Churchill," said Coolmore trainer Aidan O'Brien. "It is not written in stone, but we are looking at going up to a mile and a quarter with him." O'Brien added: "If York went well then he may go on to Leopardstown for the Gr1 Irish Champion Stakes." Churchill (Galileo-Meow, by Storm Cat) has hitherto won 7 of his 9 starts for over £1 million in earnings, including classic victories in the English & Irish Guineas.
