Thursday, 10th August 2017

Blue Sky Bloodstock celebrated a double at Canterbury yesterday with the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained duo of Runaway and Gold Standard continuing the excellent run of form of its 3YOs heading into the spring. Second last time out to the highly regarded D'Argento, the Rosemont Stud-bred and part-owned Runaway was impressive in the opening race, leading throughout for a 2.25 length victory. Purchased by Waterhouse & Julian Blaxland for $150,000 at Easter, the Manhattan Rain three-quarter-brother to Oaks' winners Abbey Marie and Absolutely is being aimed at the Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m). Two races later Runaway's stable-mate Gold Standard (Sebring-Coniston Gem, by Greig) marked himself as a young horse to watch winning over 1250m by 1.25 lengths. The 3YO was purchased by Blaxland, Waterhouse and Mount Hallowell Stud for $160,000 from the draft of Eliza Park International at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale. Blue Sky will also be represented by unbeaten 3YOs Siege Of Quebec (Fastnet Rock) and Whypeeo (I Am Invincible) on Saturday. Blue blooded $1.2 million Easter yearling purchase Siege Of Quebec will line up in the Listed Rosebud at Rosehill, while $200,000 Magic Millions buy Whypeeo will run at Doomben after winning on debut by 5.5 lengths.
