Miss Andretti Son Wins Trial

Thursday, 10th August 2017

Mr Hamilton, a son of former champion sprinter Miss Andretti, looked to have inherited plenty of his famous mum's ability when scoring an easy barrier trial win over 1000 metres at Pakenham yesterday, reports racing.com. The 3YO Nicconi colt is likely to be the first progeny of Miss Andretti (Ihtiram-Peggie's Bid, by Marooned) to make it to racetrack due to an unfortunate breeding career which has produced just three foals to date. Trainer Robert Smerdon said Mr Hamilton possessed plenty of potential. "She does seem to have given him something," Smerdon said. "I don't think it was a great trial and I don't know what the time was like, but certainly he is showing potential." Smerdon added: "I'm not sure if he'll go to the races now or have another trial but if he's anywhere near up to what she was, there's a lot to look forward to." Crowned 2006/07 Australian Horse of the Year, the Lee Freedman-trained Miss Andretti won 19 of her 31 starts for over $2.8 million in prize money, including five Gr1 victories in the Manikato Stakes, Lightning Stakes, Australia Stakes, Newmarket Handicap & Age Classic (now known as the Darley Classic). She also won the Kings Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot before it was upgraded from Gr2 to Gr1 status.
