Classic Goal for Well Bred Filly

Friday, 11th August 2017

Highly-regarded filly Campari (O'Reilly-Lillet, by Zabeel) is being aimed at the Gr1 New Zealand 1,000 Guineas in the spring, reports NZ Racing Desk. The 3YO won both of her trials last season before finishing third on debut at Rotorua on an unsuitably heavy track. "She could go to the Gold Trail Stakes or we might find a nice three-year-old maiden field for her," trainer Stephen Marsh said. "We will work that out after she trials which is likely to be at Cambridge on September 7." Purchased by Go Racing for $100,000 at the 2016 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale, Campari is by O'Reilly out of a daughter of Gr1-winning New Zealand mare Pernod (Centaine), herself the dam of dual Gr3 winner Martini Red.
