SA Racing Announces Record Stakes Boost

Monday, 14th August 2017

Prize money in South Australia will top $40 million for the first time following the latest funding boost announced by Thoroughbred Racing SA (TRSA). All TAB thoroughbred races will now be run for a minimum of $10,000 after TRSA announced a $1.5 million increase across all levels of racing in the state. This, combined with State Government's two-year $6 million funding commitment to the Adelaide Racing Carnival, will push total prize money past $40 million. "The Board of TRSA is dedicated to supporting all levels of racing in South Australia, and this announcement is another important signal to everyone involved in the sport of the strength of that commitment," said TRSA CEO Jim Watters. The following prize money increases will take effect 1st September 2017:

  • Saturday Benchmark 70 races increase to $35,000 (from $30,000)
  • Saturday $42,000 races increase to $45,000
  • Provincial Maiden races increase to $13,000 (from $12,000)
