Sioux Nations Wins Gr1 Phoenix Stakes
At The Curragh in Ireland, 2YO US-bred colt Sioux Nation (Scat Daddy-Dream The Blues, by Oasis Dream) utilised his brilliant speed to score by 0.5 length for trainer Aidan O’Brien and land his maiden top-flight success in the €250,000 Gr1 Phoenix Stakes (6 furlongs) for 2YOs, defeating Beckford (Bated Breath) & Actress (Declaration Of War). Owned by the Coolmore triumvirate of Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith & Mrs John Magnier, Sioux Nation improved his record to 3 wins (including the Gr2 Norfolk Stakes) and 2 placings from 6 starts for £199,613 in earnings. O’Brien said there were plenty of options coming up for Sioux Nation. "I think his turn of foot won it, he travels very well and quickens very well - even though he's a big horse, he's got a lot of speed,” he told Sky Sports. "Every run this year he has got better and has been coming forward. He's by Scat Daddy, like Caravaggio. I don't know if we'll stretch him to seven this year, if we did we could come here for the National Stakes and if we didn't he could go for the Middle Park [at Newmarket].” O’Brien added that Sioux Nation could even be a Breeders’ Cup contender later in the year.
