Spieth Set for Warwick Farm Trial

Monday, 14th August 2017

Gifted sprinter Spieth will trial at Warwick Farm today ahead of a first-up run in the Gr3 Concorde Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on 3 September. The Bryce Heys-trained 5YO will trial at 9:09am over 800m in heat three of the morning against a quality field that includes dual Gr1 winning filly Egg Tart. Spieth will be restricted to just three starts this campaign, with Heys hoping to secure a slot in the inaugural $10 million The Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick on 14 October. “There are a number of options for him in the spring, but he will be only having three runs and whether The Everest is one of those runs, I will worry about that later on,” he told ANZ Bloodstock News. The lightly raced Spieth (Thorn Park-Stella Livia, by Titus Livius) has shown enormous promise in his short career to date, winning 5 of his 12 starts including the Listed Lightning Handicap. He has also been twice placed at Gr1 level, namely in the Lightning Stakes (1000m) in the autumn and the Darley Classic (1200m) last spring.
