Weir Assembles PB Lawrence Team
Darren Weir could have up to seven runners in Saturday's Gr2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield, reports racing.com. The champion trainer said yesterday that stable stars Black Heart Bart and Humidor were likely to be entered along with Gailo Chop, former WA galloper Chocolate Holic, stayer Big Duke, Star Exhibit and Amelie's Star in the $200,000 weight-for-age feature. "I'll enter Chocolate Holic, but maybe he might go to the Regal Roller and Big Duke might go to the mile race on the same day,'' Weir said. "It's a good kick-off for Black Heart Bart as he goes so good second-up and he needs a hit-out with the $1 million Memsie in mind. He'll then go to the Makybe Diva and then we'll look at our options from there.'' As for Australian Cup winner Humidor, who is being aimed at the Caulfield Cup, Weir commented: "I'm happy with him but he's still a baby. He's still a baby in the head but he's a gelding and we hope he'll be around for a long time." Weir added that Big Duke was being aimed at the Melbourne Cup, but that he would have to run well in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup to warrant a start on the first Tuesday in November.
