Spieth Sharp in Trial

Tuesday, 15th August 2017

Classy sprinter Spieth (Thorn Park-Stella Livia, by Titus Livius) showed he was on track for a big spring campaign when winning a barrier trial at Warwick Farm yesterday. The Bryce Heys-trained 5YO looked in top shape when coasting to the line unextended to score by 0.2 length over Marsupial & Almighty Girl in the third 800m heat of the morning. "Corey [jockey Corey Brown] told me the horse travelled beautifully without being aggressive so it was a good morning out," Heys told racenet. "I wanted to use this morning as a conditioning exercise to have him cherry ripe first-up." Speith is set to resume in the Gr3 Concorde Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on 3 September, with Heys hoping a win in that race can secure him a start in the inaugural $10 million The Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick on 14 October. "I haven't had any formal discussions with any slot holders regarding The Everest," Heys said. "We'll worry about that after his first-up run. But we would love to be involved if his performance warrants it." Click here to watch Spieth's trial.
