Ugo Foscolo on Track for Spring

Tuesday, 15th August 2017

Gr1 winning New Zealand galloper Ugo Foscolo won a trial at Warwick Farm yesterday as he prepares to embark on a spring campaign aimed at the Caulfield Cup, reports ANZ Bloodstock News. The New Zealand 2,000 Guineas winner has now won both his trials this preparation after scoring by a comfortable 1.3 lengths in his 950m heat yesterday morning. The Kevin Hickman-owned 4YO is likely to head towards the Gr1 Epsom Handicap in Sydney before travelling south for his primary target, the $3.1 million Gr1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on 21 October. “We will just weigh up his options over the next couple of weeks, but his immediate plan would be a lead-up race to the Epsom Handicap before heading down to Melbourne where we could stretch him over a bit further,” said Adrian Bott, who trains the 4YO in partnership with Gai Waterhouse. “I think stepping out to 2400 metres will be his ideal trip, so he could also end up being a nice Caulfield Cup type of horse for us.”
