Elate Wins US Gr1 Alabama Stakes
In what could only be described as a demolition job, 3YO filly Elate cruised to victory over the weekend in the US$600,000 Gr1 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga, reports drf.com. Jose Ortiz took the armchair ride on the daughter of Darley's shuttler Medaglia d'Oro to defeat Tiz Well and Salty and further confirm her class after being narrowly defied in the recent Gr1 American Oaks by the China Horse Club owned Abel Tasman. Prepared by Hall of Fame Trainer Bob Mott, Elate won her maiden by an astonishing 12.5-lengths at Aqueduct last Autumn. Mott commented post the Alabama, "You could tell she was a filly that was probably going through a little bit of a growing stage, a little bit of a development stage. We said then she probably wouldn't be on her game for the Kentucky Oaks and she was more of an Alabama filly, and that's exactly how it worked out." Elate is yet another elite performer by Medaglia d'Oro, sire of 18 individual Gr1 winners, including elite Australian performers Astern and Vancouver. Medaglia d'Oro stands the 2017 season at Darley for $110,000.
