Gr1 Winner Charmont Retired For Breeding
In other local breeding news, NZ Racing News reports that Gr1 heroine Charmont (High Chaparral-Martique, by Danehill) has been retired for breeding. The Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman-trained Charmont is armed with an impeccable pedigree, with her dam a daughter of multiple Gr1-performed champion mare Champagne whose full-brother is dual Gr1-winning sire St Reims. On the track Charmont's track highlight was a triumph in the Gr1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes, with multiple Group placings also including the Gr1 New Zealand Oaks. Like Champagne, Charmont was bred by Bob Emery, who enthused, "She won a Gr1 and I've only ever had two Gr1 winners so she's pretty special to me. She's a six-year-old mare now and she's got the pedigree so it makes sense she now becomes a broodmare."
