Less Is More For Gr1 Juddmonte International
This afternoon's Gr1 Juddmonte International (2030m) at York in the UK comprises a small, but intriguing, line up of quality racehorses, however finding a firm favourite is no easy task. It could come down to a traditional Coolmore-Godolphin clash, with each of Barney Roy and Churchill hovering around the $3.50 mark. Complicating matters is that among four of the seven runners who are by Galileo, one of them is Ulysses, narrow conqueror of Barney Roy two starts ago in the Gr1 Sandown Eclipse Stakes (see below). Ballydoyle's Churchill defeated Barney Roy in the Gr1 Two Thousand Guineas but finished fourth behind him in the Gr1 St James' Palace Stakes. Ulysses, meanwhile, got as close as any runner could to freakish Enable ($1.30 for tomorrow's Yorkshire Oaks) in the Gr1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. He's quoted at $4 and could even jump favourite. That sounds like a veritable coin toss, particularly with Gr1 English Derby runner-up Cliffs of Moher also in the mix.
