RAD Board Threatens Tougher Hoop Sanctions
Following champion jockey Damien Oliver's failed appeal attempt yesterday, RAD Board Chairman Judge John Bowman stepped in, promising tougher sanctions should jockeys lodge appeals against careless riding offences whereby the original sanction is then deemed too conservative, reports racing.com. Although Oliver escaped further penalty to his existing 14-week suspension, Bowman noted that in the board's opinion the original sentence had the scope in future cases to be increased should "circumstances warrant it". Oliver will now have to forfeit the plum ride on ex-Perth sprinter Vega Magic in the $1 million Memsie Stakes on September 2. He was suspended for his ride on Redcore at Sandown last Wednesday.
