Valuable Filly Tackles Deep Melbourne Field On Debut
At Sandown Park this afternoon, connections have chosen a challenging field for the debut of recently turned 3YO filly Bralca's Gem. A $675,000 graduate of the 2016 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale, where she was purchased by Pat Carey Racing and Group One Bloodstock from the draft of Swettenham Stud, Bralca's Gem is bred in the purple. By Coolmore Stud's former champion Australian sire Fastnet Rock, her multiple stakes-performed dam Hidden Energy was runner-up in the Gr1 Robert Sangster Stakes, and is a half-sister to Group winner and sire Kaphero as well as stakes-winner Princesa, dam of multiple Group winners Star Of Giselle and Solicit. Grand dam Kapchat won at Gr1 level, and Bralca's Gem's half-sister finished runner-up in Flemington's Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes. A wide barrier draw doesn't help, so expect her to improve on whatever she does today.
