Ulysses Wins UK Gr1 Juddmonte International

Thursday, 24th August 2017

At York in the UK overnight, former Coolmore shuttler and champion sire Galileo added another Gr1 victory to his glowing stud record when Niarchos home-bred Ulysses (Galileo-Light Shift, by Kingmambo) scored by a decisive 2-lengths for trainer Sir Michael Stoute in the £1 million Gr1 Juddmonte International Stakes (10 furlongs, 56 yards). Ridden in a similar way to his Gr1 Coral-Eclipse Stakes win, Ulysses bided his time behind duelling year younger favourites Churchill and Barney Roy, who had no answer when the chestnut cruised up alongside them like a Rolls Royce out for a Sunday drive. Ulysses took his consistent record to 5 wins (including the Gr3 Gordon Stakes) and 3 placings (including the Gr1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth II Stakes & Gr1 Prince Of Wales's Stakes) from 12 starts for £1,456,487 in earnings.
