At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Waikato Stud's Cox Plate-winning champion sire Savabeel (Zabeel-Savannah Success, by Success Express) added a Group success when 3YO bay colt Addictive Nature (Savabeel-Generous Nature, by Carnegie) lived up to his pedigree when opening up his stakes account in the $150,000 Gr3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) for 3YOs, defeating the fast-finishing Assimilate & Astoria. Addictive Nature, who improved his record to 2 wins and 1 placing from 3 starts for $126,950 in earnings, showed he would be a worthy contender for the $1 million Gr1 Golden Rose (1400m) on 23 September. "He's still doing things a little bit upside down but he's got untapped potential," trainer Bjorn Baker told Sky Racing. "We're yet to see the best of him. For a Savabeel he's just about go too much speed, so there's a little bit of a question in terms of what we do and where we go." Purchased for $775,000 by Ultra Thoroughbred Racing at the 2016 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale, Addictive Nature is out of the unraced mare Generous Nature (Carnegie), making him a full-brother to former smart 3YO Savvy Nature. A winner of the Gr2 Vase in Melbourne and Gr3 Spring Stakes at Newcastle, Savvy Nature was also placed at Gr1 level behind Complacent and Criterion in the 2013 Spring Champion Stakes in Sydney before eventually continuing his career in Hong Kong.
