Marsha Wins Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes

Monday, 28th August 2017

The Sir Mark Prescott-trained Marsha (Acclamation-Marlinka, by Marju) caused one of the bigger upsets of the British Flat season when winning Friday's Gr1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes (5 furlongs) at York. The 4YO, who doubled her Gr1 tally after claiming last year's Prix de l'Abbaye in France, launched late to defeat hot favourite and champion filly Lady Aurelia by a nose in the £350,000 sprint feature. Exceed And Excel 5YO Cotai Glory finished third. "That was amazing. Coming here we were happy she was as well as we'd ever had her. She'd never looked better," said Dan Downie, representing owners the Elite Racing Club. "I didn't know if we'd won, but it's a funny camera angle here. It's fantastic for the club and she's a home-bred, too. She'll go for the Prix de l'Abbaye again." Marsha improved her record to 7 wins and 7 placings (including the Gr1 King's Stand Stakes) from 16 starts for £601,666 in earnings.
