Order Of St George & Rekindling in Contention for Cup
Both Aidan O’Brien and his son Joseph could have runners in this year’s Melbourne Cup with the Lloyd Williams-owned duo of Order of St George and Rekindling in contention for Australia’s most famous race, reports Sky Sports. Williams, who part owns the Aidan O’Brien-trained Order Of St George with Coolmore, and owns outright Rekindling prepared by Joseph, is keen for the pair to line up on the first Tuesday in November. "I'd say Order Of St George probably has a better chance of coming than Rekindling," Williams’ son Nick said. "Rekindling will probably run at Doncaster in the Leger. He's only a three-year-old and has had quite a long year. I've had a number of chats with Joseph about bringing him and he's actually very, very keen to bring him out here.” Williams added: “It seems Aidan and the lads are a little keener to bring Order Of St George than they were last year, but there's still a bit to play. He'll obviously run in the Irish Leger and we'll see what happens.” If either horse were to contest the Melbourne Cup they would be bidding to give Lloyd Williams his sixth win in the race.
