Smart Filly Shaping Well for Top Stable

Tuesday, 29th August 2017

Gr1-performed Kiwi filly Joyfilly (Highly Recommended-When the Cats Away, by Felix the Cat) continues to impress new trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott in the lead-up to her spring campaign, reports NZ Racing Desk. Joyfilly crossed the Tasman to link up with the famous Tulloch Lodge stable after finishing third behind star filly Melody Belle in the Gr1 Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) in April. "They are really happy with her. She's settled in well and she's a fit and happy horse," racing manager Emma Pearce said. Renamed Joyfilly Ours for her Australian career, the 3YO has trialled twice this month in preparation for a return to racing in Saturday's Gr2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick. "All of the jockeys that have ridden her have made good comments about her," Pearce said. "She's going to run in the Furious Stakes first-up. Gai thinks that the filly will stretch out in trip later on, but this is a nice starting point for her." Pearce added: "It's the first step in the Princess series so that's the likely route she'll follow."
