Canberra Horses Excluded from Highway Races
Racing NSW yesterday announced that Canberra trained horses will no longer be eligible to contest Highway races after Saturday, 2 December. After considering submissions from the Canberra Racing Club and other parties, Racing NSW decided that based on the quality of training and other facilities available to them, Canberra trained horses are the equal of NSW provincial trained horses, which are ineligible for Highway races. "In announcing its decision, the Board has provided a notice period which will still enable Canberra trained horses to take part in the Highway races for a further three months" said Racing NSW Chief Executive Peter V'landys. "In addition, Canberra trained horses will also be eligible to enter and contest the $200,000 Anniversary Highway to be run at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 14 October 2017."
