Rose Ready for Spring

Wednesday, 30th August 2017

Trainer David Vandyke says he is looking forward to dual Gr1-winning mare Yankee Rose (All American-Condesaar, by Xaar) making her long awaited return to racing in Saturday's weight-for-age $1 million Gr1 New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield. Last seen finishing a well beaten favourite (14th of 15) in the VRC Oaks on 3 November, the 4YO missed the entire autumn after having a bone chip removed from her knee. "It's very exciting, mixed with nerves and anticipation," Vandyke told racing.com after watching Yankee Rose work over 1000m at Caulfield yesterday. "It's been extremely tough. She's been in work for over six months. There has been times when we thought she'd have to be retired. But she's kept improving. Sometimes it's three steps forward, two steps back." Vandyke added: "But I'm just glad to have her here in good shape now." Vandyke has previously stated that Yankee Rose's primary spring target will be either the Caulfield Cup or the Cox Plate.
