Spieth Out to Secure Everest Slot
Trainer Bryce Heys is hoping that gifted sprinter Spieth will attract the attention of Everest slot holders when he resumes in Saturday's Gr3 Concorde Stakes (1100m) at Royal Randwick. Spieth will be restricted to just three starts this campaign, with Heys hoping to secure a slot in the inaugural $10 million The Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick on 14 October. "A horse of his profile…it's only natural there's some intrigue and interest in how he returns to the races,'' Heys told racingnsw.com.au. "He's going to be a little vulnerable but I'm really happy to be taking him to the races. He's going to drop a strong last 600m and he's in good order." Heys added: "I want to be in it [The Everest]. As it stands now he's not in it. Hopefully we are in a position where we are talking about being in it on Sunday.'' The lightly raced Spieth (Thorn Park-Stella Livia, by Titus Livius) has shown enormous promise in his short career to date, winning 5 of his 12 starts including the Listed Lightning Handicap. He has also been twice placed at Gr1 level, namely in the Lightning Stakes (1000m) in the autumn and the Darley Classic (1200m) last spring.
