Thompson Raises Bar With Nieta

Thursday, 31st August 2017

Smart sprinting mare Nieta will face her biggest challenge to date in Saturday's Gr3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick. A winner of 6 of her 12 starts, Nieta has failed in her previous two starts in stakes company but trainer John Thompson is confident she is primed to get off the mark with a black-type success on Saturday. "She's come back in really good order and it's time to let her rip. It's time to raise the bar again now," Thompson told racenet. "Saturday's performance will play a big role in where she goes for the rest of the prep." Thompson continued: "It will decide if we continue on in mixed races or head to Melbourne and contest the mares' races." Nieta has trialled superbly leading into the weekend with two 740m trial wins, including one over multiple Group One placegetter and Everest contender Fell Swoop. "She's ready to go," Thompson said. "She's come through her trials great and she looks good." He added: "It's a good race. Horses like Redzel, Spieth and Felines are a different class to the horses she's raced in the past so it will be a good test for her." By dual Gr1-winning stallion Nicconi, Nieta is out of a half-sister to Gr1 George Main Stakes & Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap winner Sincero.
