Singo Blue-Blood A Sneaky Guineas Chance
Strawberry Hill Stud principal John Singleton appears to have a potential Group quality colt to look forward to if his debut effort earlier yesterday at Geelong is anything to go by. Sent off a strong favourite at $2.40 in Race 1, the supporters of More Sundays (Fastnet Rock-More Joyous, by More Than Ready) had nothing to worry about after the Hayes, Hayes & Dabernig-trained early 3YO started with lustre. Soon finding himself in front, the bay entire controlled the tempo, and despite racing a little green turning for home, soon knuckled down to win softly ridden by an authoritative margin of around 2-lengths. Asked if the stable thinks More Sundays might measure up to bigger things in the Spring, a relieved Ben Hayes quipped, “This is the last time you’ll see him in the country. He’s a sneaky Caulfield Guineas chance.” The co-trainer acknowledged that, given his pedigree, he’ll improve even further as he gets over more ground. Jockey Jordan Childs believes that even though he was ridden positively today, More Sundays is likely to be an even better horse when ridden with a sit.
