Perth trainer Simon Miller has plenty to dream about for the next few weeks, at least, starting with the seasonal return of exciting filly Amelia’s Jewel who is set to fire first-up at Ascot on Saturday. The returning star lines up in the Gr3 Roma Cup (1100m), her first time back at the races after last year’s Ascot Pinnacles triumphs. Amelia’s Jewel (Siyouni-Bumbasina, by Canford Cliffs) won the Gr2 WA Guineas (1600m) before enhancing her star status with a Group 1 victory in the Northerly Stakes (1800m) last December, and while Miller says the Segenhoe Stud-reared 3YO can make an impact first-up in the Roma Cups she will not be fully wound up until her main target: The $4 million Quokka in a fortnight. “She’s not wound up yet, the Quokka is our go. She is forward enough to win on Saturday, but I still have room for improvement,” Miller stated. Amelia’s Jewel will jump from barrier two in the Roma Cup. To be ridden by Pat Carberry, she carries 54.5kg at weight-for-age. Miller revealed, “She’s bounced out of everything we’ve done this time in, it’s been an easy prep so far.” Meanwhile, set to race on The Quokka race day, Miller has two smoking guns for the Gr2 Karrakatta Plate, WA’s most important 2YO event. Rated an even money chance, Fernrigg Farm graduate Live To Tell (Territories), who dazzled in the recent Supremacy Stakes, may not have things her own way, with Miller also expected to saddle up Wiley Girl, a Universal Ruler filly who races in the same green, red and white silks as Amelia’s Jewel which are synonymous with owner-breeder Peter Walsh’s Amelia Park horses. A half-sister to Karakkatta Plate runner-up Lady Cosmology, Wiley Girl is now third favourite after her eye-catching Ascot win a week ago.
