  • Aussie Tom Rides 1000th Winner In the UK

    Wednesday, 6th September 2023

Jockey Tom Marquand rode his one thousandth winner in Britain on Monday aboard Five Towns (Lord Kanaloa-Guilty Twelve, by Giant's Causeway), reports timeform.com. "It's fantastic," Marquand told Sky Sports Racing. "It takes a lot of horses and lot of people to ride 1,000 winners, so I'm very fortunate to have had that support." Marquand began his career with Richard Hannon in 2014 and only a year later was crowned champion apprentice as an 18-year-old, but his first Group 1 win didn't come until 2020 when he rode Addeybb (Pivotal-Bush Cat, by Kingmambo) to win the Gr1 Ranvet and Gr1 Queen Elizabeth, earning him the nickname 'Aussie Tom'. The pair then backed up to win the Gr1 Queen Elizabeth again in 2021. Now 25, Marquand is currently second on the British Jockeys Premiership behind William Buick. Just behind him in third position is Marquand's wife Hollie Doyle who is one of the world's best-known jockeys after a number of Group 1 successes and 150 winners in each of the last three British seasons. The couple has also ridden successfully in Japan and Hong Kong.
