  • Justify Colt Unleashes Gold Coast Storm Warning

    Friday, 12th January 2024

While storms may be lashing many parts of the east coast of Australia including the Gold Coast area, the G Waterhouse & A Bott-trained Storm Boy (Justify-Pelican, by Fastnet Rock) has shown with his unbeaten run that the Coolmore Stud yearling sale graduate has what it takes to add the $3m Magic Millions 2YO Classic to his record. A winner on debut in early December off the back of two trial wins, the colt travelled north to score even more impressively in the Gr3 BJ McLachlan Stakes when taking the prize by just less than 2.5-lengths. While the form behind him may be somewhat questionable, the Tulloch Lodge team is sure to have the Cunningham Thoroughbreds and partners-raced colt ready this Saturday. With seven last start winners in the race, the Godolphin-trained Parkour (Extreme Choice-Trestrail, by Sebring) improved from his debut second in the Ballarat Magic Millions 2YO Classic, to score at Randwick over 1200m after coming from the tail of the field, the same position he may be in come Saturday after drawing the outside barrier. With Jamie Kah retaining the ride, the Goodwood Farm-bred colt was purchased for $600,000 by Godolphin from last year's sale, interestingly the same price they paid for Exhilarates (Snitzel) a few years prior before that filly claimed the 2018 Magic Millions 2YO Classic. Seemingly following a similar path to when they trained Sunlight (Zoustar) to victory in the feature juvenile race, T & C McEvoy used last start as the final lead up run for their exciting filly Arabian Summer (Too Darn Hot-Maraam, by Street Cry). Stakes-placed at her first two starts, the Coolmore consigned filly won the Ballarat MM 2YO Classic by 3.5-lengths from Parkour before winning last Saturday in the Aquis Gold Pearl over 1100m with ease at the Gold Coast, highlighting that she appears the best of the 10 fillies who have accepted.
