  • Valley Schedule Influences I Wish I Win Campaign

    Friday, 26th July 2024

Sprint star I Wish I Win (Savabeel) will follow a new spring racing path this year, with two Group 1 races at The Valley in September on his schedule. According to racing.com, the racing calendar's adjustment, placing the Gr1 Moir Stakes (1000m) three weeks earlier on September 7, prompted trainer and part-owner Peter Moody to alter their strategy. Last year, I Wish I Win had an unconventional start with a first-up run in the 1400-metre Memsie Stakes six weeks before competing in The Everest. This season, he will have a more traditional preparation. Moody indicated that although I Wish I Win has not yet raced at The Valley, the Moir Stakes followed by the G1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) on September 27 align well with his Everest campaign. "The dates have changed this year, so we're skipping the Memsie and will likely target the Manikato three weeks before The Everest," Moody said. "He might also run in the 1000-metre Moir Stakes, but that’s still under consideration." Currently in Queensland, I Wish I Win is engaged in pace work and enjoying his training regimen. Raising his earnings close to $12 million after after his victory in the Gr1 Kingsford-Smith Stakes in Brisbane in June, I Wish I Win has had a short break Sportsbet lists I Wish I Win as favourite for for the Moir Stakes, the Manikato Stakes, and the The Everest.
