  • Sydney’s ATC Princess Series Extended by Darley

    Wednesday, 7th August 2024

Darley Australia has expressed its delight in announcing its ongoing partnership with the Australian Turf Club, centred around the prestigious Darley Princess Series, a four-leg race series highlighting the best 3YO fillies in the country. Originating in 1985, the Darley Princess Series encompasses four Group races that kick off the spring season, attracting trainers and owners in pursuit of Group success. Spanning a six-week period, the series offers substantial prize money and coveted Black-Type status, while rewarding the winning breeder with nominations to a Darley stallion. In 2023, Autumn Ballet, Tiz Invincible and Tropical Squall claimed victories, securing nominations for their breeders: Arrowfield Stud, Phoenix Thoroughbred and Kooringal Stud. This year, the series aligns with four first-season sires in Australia. The Darley Princess Series at Royal Randwick includes the Gr2 Darley Silver Shadow Stakes over 1200m on Saturday, 24 August; Gr2 Darley Furious Stakes over 1400m on Saturday, 7 September; Gr2 Darley Tea Rose Stakes Stakes over 1400m on Saturday, 21 September; Gr1 Darley Flight Stakes over 1600m on Saturday, 5 October. The winning breeder will receive a nomination to one of the following stallions respectively (related race in brackets below). Note: These nominations are available for use by the winning breeder (only) for the 2024 or 2025 breeding seasons:

    • Golden Mile, the Caufield Guineas winner, retired with over $4.3 million in prize money, surpassing Shinzo, Cylinder and Ozzmosis (Gr2 Darley Silver Shadow Stakes).
    • Triple Time, Frankel’s best-miling son, won the Gr1 Queen Anne Stakes, defeating four champions (Gr2 Darley Furious Stakes).
    • Native Trail, a Champion 2YO from the same sire line as I Am Invincible (Gr2 Darley Tea Rose Stakes).
    • Cylinder, a multiple Gr2-winning 2YO, trained on to land the Gr1 Newmarket Handicap (Gr1 Darley Flight Stakes).
