Karaka Offering Siblings to Star Gr1 Graduates
Friday, 6th December 2024
From Hong Kong’s speedster Ka Ying Rising (NZ) (Shamexpress) to Australian standout Atishu (NZ) (Savabeel), New Zealand’s thoroughbreds are world-renowned for excellence. Karaka 2025 catalogues are packed with outstanding prospects ready to uphold that reputation. Both Book 1 and Book 2 feature the celebrated bloodlines that made New Zealand famous. Book 1 alone includes 102 siblings to stakes winners, with 22 of those being Group 1 winners. Adding further allure, there are 89 sons and daughters of stakes-winning mares, 11 of which are Group 1 winners. Below are four examples of the quality on offer:
- An early highlight of Karaka 2025 is Lot 93, a Sweynesse colt out of Madonna Mia (NZ) (Red Clubs). He is a full-brother to Lucky Sweynesse (NZ) (Sweynesse), a $90,000 purchase at the 2020 Ready to Run Sale who has earned over HK$74m (NZ$16m). Lucky Sweynesse’s illustrious career boasts 16 wins, including the Group One Hong Kong Sprint and Chairman’s Sprint Prize. Madonna Mia, a Listed winner, also produced Queensland Oaks placegetter Signora Nera (NZ) (Sweynesse).
- Lot 345 promises excitement as a full-sister to champion three-year-old Orchestral (NZ) (Savabeel). Orchestral, a $625,000 Karaka 2022 graduate, claimed five consecutive wins as a three-year-old, including the $1.5m Karaka Millions 3YO and the Group One New Zealand Derby. With six wins from 11 starts and earnings of $2.15m, she exemplifies class.
- Another standout is Lot 564, a Proisir filly and full-sister to Prowess (NZ) (Proisir). Bought for $230,000 in 2021, Prowess earned over $1.5m with eight wins, including the Vinery Stud Stakes. A yearling full-sister fetched $1.6m at Karaka 2024.
- Finally, Lot 188, a Per Incanto half-sister to champion two-year-old Velocious (NZ) (Written Tycoon), offers compelling credentials. Velocious, a $190,000 purchase, captured the $1m Karaka Millions 2YO and the Group One Sistema Stakes, amassing over $926,000 in earnings.
