  • Tails Wagging for In form Picket Fencer Artie

    Friday, 6th December 2024

A winner of six of his seven starts (second in the other) since joining the Sunshine Coast stable of trainer Paul Jenkins, 5YO gelding I Am Artie (Artie Schiller-Sumakaray, by Manner Hill) will be chasing his first black type victory on Saturday when he lines up in the Listed Tails Stakes (1500m) at Eagle Farm as one of the favourites. Set to carry 56kg, the lightest weight he has carried in some time, jockey James Orman will jump from barrier 5 and maps to be able to slot in where comfortable and prove very hard to beat in the run to the line. A winner of over $800,000 in earnings for his connections, the Ciaron Maher-trained Junipal (Reset-Palatine Hill, by Palace Music) has two wins from his last three starts and if jockey Ryan Maloney can give him a soft run with 60kg on his back then he looks capable of playing a role in the finish. Another who comes into the race with solid recent form is the Desleigh Forster-trained Bettcha The Crown (Casino Prince-Bettchally Miss, by Star Witness), a winner of his last two starts, both at Doomben. While he has four top three finishes from nine starts at Eagle Farm, the 5YO gelding is in form and should not be discounted over the 1500m, a distance he is unbeaten at.
